IF EID FALLS ON A FRIDAY...

Eid falls on Friday must one pray Jumah
Question:

If ”Eid Al-/ Fitr or Eid Al-Adha fell on Friday, . In this case what should be done? Should we pray Zuhr if we dont offer the Friday prayer, or is there no requirement for it if we do not perform the Friday prayer?
Answer:

Whoever prayed the Eid prayer on Friday, it is permitted for him not to attend the Friday prayer on that day, except for the Imam, for he is obliged to perform it for whoever wishes to attend it -be they from among those who attended the Eid prayer , or those who did not attend it . If no one attends the Friday prayer , he is relieved of its obligation and he should offer the Zhur prayer. In saying this, the scholars cite as evidence the narration of Abu Dawud in his Sunan, on the authority of Iyyas bin Abi Ramlah Ash-Shami, who said : I witnessed Mu’awiyyah bin Abi Sufyan, may Allah be pleased with him , asking Zaid bin Arqam: Did you witness two Eids falling on the same day with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhe was salaam ? He said : Yes . He asked : ” And what did he do ? He replied : ” He offered the Eid prayer , then he gave permission for those who wished, to perform the Friday prayer , saying : Whoever wants to pray, then let him pray . (Abu Dawud no . 1070)

Also cited as evidence is the narration of Abu Dawud in his Sunan, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhe was salaam , which states that he said : Two Eids have fallen on this day, so whoever wished, it will siffice him instead of the Friday prayer; and we are offering the Friday prayer.( Abu Dawud no 1074)

This proves that it is allowed on Fridays for those who have attended the Eid prayer not to perform the Friday prayer , but that the Imam is not excused, because he sallallahu alayhe was salaam said : And we are offering the Friday prayer.

Also cited as evidence is the narration of Muslim, on the authority of An-Nu’man bin Bashir, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet sallallahu alayhe was salaam used to recite Surah Al-A’la and Surah Al-Ghashiyah in the Eid prayers and the Friday prayers and he might have prayed both of them one day and recited them in both prayers ( Muslim no 878) So whoever does not attend the Friday prayer from among those who have prayed the Eid prayer, he must pray it as Zhur , in accordance with the evidences which prove that it is obligatory to offer the Zhur prayer for those who do not attend the Friday Prayer .

Fasting on the Day of Arafat 1430 (26 November 2009)

FASTING THE DAY OF ’ARAFAH:

The ninth day of Dhul-Hijjah is the day of ’Arafah, since it is on this day that the pilgrims gather at the mountain plain of ’Arafah, praying and supplicating to their Lord.

It is mustahabb (highly recommended) for those who are not pilgrims to fast on this day, since the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) was asked about fasting on the day of ’Arafah, so he said, “It expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year.” [4]

Likewise, the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, ‘There is no day on which Allaah frees people from the Fire more so than on the day of ’Arafah. He comes close to those (people standing on ’Arafah), and then He reveals before His Angels saying, ‘What are these people seeking.” [5]

Imaam at-Tirmidhee (d.275H) – rahimahullaah – said, “The People of Knowledge consider it recommended to fast on the day of ’Arafah, except for those at ’Arafah.” [6]

Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. A broad range of topics related to ‘Aqeedah, Fiqh, Manhaj and Da’wah are expounded upon by this noble Scholar. “What is your advice to a person who wishes to seek knowledge and hold on to it?” The Shaykh replied: ‘It is upon you to maintain contact with the people of knowledge (‘Ulamaa) so that you can benefit from them…’ An important answer from a true Alim (scholar) which needs to be comprehended by the Muslims since many have taken the laymen, one who memorized a book, one who spent a day or month with an alim, read books of Tafseer and Hadeeth in Kuffar Universities and so on to be the beacons of knowledge in their lives. This answer is also a befitting reply to those who claim that we need not run to the ‘Ulamaa overseas when we potentially have ‘Ulamaa in our lands (the west).

What are the books that advise to read in ‘Aqeedah, Tafseer and Hadeeth?

What is your advice to a person who wishes to seek knowledge and hold on to it?

What is your opinion of those callers who say the Da’wah (Salafiyyah) is a return to the Fitan (troubles) of Shaykhul-Islaam Muhammad Ibn ‘Abdul-Wahhab?

The Da’wah of Ikwaanul-Muslimeen has failed since its inception… It is mentioned in a magazine that if it wasn’t for the da’wah of Hassan al-Bannaa, the people wouldn’t have been brought out from the cafes and cinemas…?

There are three groups that are prominent today; Ikwaanul-Muslimeen, Jama’aatut-Tableegh , Ansaarus-Sunnah. Which one of them is better?

You mentioned in the lecture, the term ‘al-wahabiyyah’. I have heard a tape by some students of knowledge, its title; a Salafee/Tableeghee discourse. He said in it ‘as for al-Wahabiyyah it has nothing to do with me’?

We ask you to give a summarised address to every caller to Allaah who wants to be upon baseerah (insightful knowledge). We find that some youth have love for the da’wah but unfortunately invite in ways that are wrong.

Is it obligatory to be obedient to the rulers who don’t rule by the rule of Allaah?

Is it permissible to give allegiance to them? What is your advice to the young Muslims in other than this country (Saudi Arabia) that might rule by other laws (i.e. secular laws)?

Some of the youth make Takfeer (judging people to be disbelievers) to people who aren’t upon their way?

The differences between the scholars have caused differences between the youth; this has caused repudiation amongst them?

You have spoken about as-siyasah (politics), so what type of politics do you want, cultivated politics?

People when they take the minbar, they say that which is different from what they say in private sittings, what do you say about this?

Is there such a thing as Islaamic Nasheed?

How does a person increase his Islaamic knowledge in an area that doesn’t have duroos (Classes with the people of knowledge), does listening to lectures help?

To say the hearts of the servant are between the two fingers of ar-Rahmaan, is this considered resemblance?

(The one in whom relief is sought), is it from the names in which Allaah is sought?

What is the ruling in Islaam with regards to the one who makes masturbation, for fear of falling into fitnah?

Is the saying, ‘Salafee-Soofee’, a correct statement?

Is giving Islaamic da’wah obligatory upon all people?

The Soofees say, ‘Indeed whey are in the realm is abstinence, not all Soofism is the same’?

What do you advise your youth who have memorized the Qur’aan but then became lazy?

Is it permissible to curse a specific individual?

Is the one who takes actions of disobedience lightly a kaafir?

There are people who leave of religious commitment, what is your naseehah (advice) to them?

What is your one who brings the example of the trial of Imaam Ahmad?

What is the ruling on the one who curses Allaah, the Messenger of Allaah and so forth?

If a person curses Allaah in a state of anger, what is the ruling?

Our Dawah (Summarized)

Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim

All praise is due to Allaah, we praise Him and seek His aid and forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allaah from the evils of our soouls and the evils of our actions.

Whomsoever Allaah guides there is none to misguide and whomsoever Allaah misguides there is none to guide. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allaah, alone, without any partners and I bear witness that

Muhammad is His servant and messenger.

1. We worship Allaah by way of Tawheed. So we do not supplicate to anyone besides Allaah nor do we seek refuge in anyone besides Him in matters of bringing about good or repelling some harm. We perform worship by having

hatred and enmity for the polytheists. However, we are obligated to call them to Tawheed first and clarify to them that there is no Islaam without Tawheed that whoever calls unto other than Allaah has committed disbelief. So whoever persists after that, then at that point we are obligated to distance ourselves from him and hate him for the sake of Allaah.

2. The Creed of the Salaf is established upon the principle that "Allaah is described with what He has described himself within His Book and upon the tongue of His Messenger (sallAllaauhu 'alayhi wa Sallaam), without resorting to

tahreef, tamtheel, tashbeeh, ta'teel or ta'weel." [1]

3. We affirm for Allaah the best of Names, which He has affirmed for Himself and which He has praised Himself with, whether they are mentioned in the Qur'aan or the Sunnah.

4. We believe that there is no path towards achieving Allaah's contement, or a way towards Paradise, except through the Way of Allaah's Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa Sallam). And whoever seeks a way towards gaining Allaah's contentment through other than the Way of Allaah's Messenger, then he has gone astray and been blinded from the truth. And he has lost in this world and the next.

5. We believe that the Legislation of Allaah is what has been brought down through two revelations: The Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa Sallam). This is what our Lord has indicated in his saying": "Then we played you on a Sharee'ah (Legislated System) based on Our Command, so follow it, and do not follow the desires of those who have no knowledge." [Surah Al-Jaathiyah: 18]

6. We believe that the Qur'aan is the Speech of Allaah, which was revealed and not created, and that the Sunnah is what explains and clarifies it. The Qur'aan is interpreted by the Sunnah and by the interpretations of the Sahaabah (Companions) and those who followed them in goodness. So the interpretation of the Qur'aan is by way of the narration, meaning by way of the Sahaabah, the Taabi'een and the Ahaddeeth concerning it. And the books that contain these interpreations are the ones we are obligated to acuire and read, such as the Tafseer of Ibn Jareer, the Tafseer of Ibn Katheer, the Tafseer of Al-Baghawee, the Tafseer "Ad-Durr Al-Mantoor" of As-Suyootee and so on.

7. We are obligated to take the Sunnah acoording to the way of the Muhadditheen - in terms of their authenticity or weakness. So we take what is found to be authentic and leave off what is weak.

8. We worship Allaah by obeying the rulers, as long as they are Muslims who seek judgement through Allaah's Legislation and who establish the prescribed punishments, and as long as they establish the prayer. Obeying them is an obligation even if they commit oppression. And whoever says something

contrary to this and makes it permissible to revolte against the Muslim leader, even if he may be oppressive, then he is an innovator and a deviant. And it is obligatory on the Muslim scholars to refute this statement of his and to expose his deviance.

9. We hold that it is not permissible to spread the faults of the leaders, because doing this influences and brings about trials and afflictions (fitan), and causes them to spread.

10. We are obligated to worship Allaah through the Sunnah, by following it and by loathing innovations and the innovators. This is based on the Prophet's saying "Whoever does a deed, which is not in accordance to our affair (i.e. the

Sunnah) is rejected." And in another narration: "Whoever introduces into our affair (Sunnah) that which isn't part of it is rejected".

This is a summary and some brief words on the Creed of the Salaf, which we are obligated to accept and follow if we truly want salvation and the truth.

And we must renounce those opinions of men, which cannot be traced back to any source of evidence, since men are known by way of the truth and the truth is not known by way of men.

Lastly, we must beg and implore Allaah to show us the truth as true and enable us to to follow it, and to show us the falsehood as false and enable us to avoid it. Indeed Allaah is Responsbible for that and Able to make it happen. And

may the peace and blessings of Allaah be on Muhammad- the best, most dutiful, most pious and purest of creation - and on his family and his Companions.

[1] Translator's Note: The are forbidden acts commmitted against Allaah's Names and Attributes. Tahreef means to change or distort the wording of Allaah's name or attribute. Tamtheel and tashbeeh means to give a like resemblance to a name or attribute. Ta'teel means total denial of a name or
